John Crew died, leaving a daughter as the only heiress and she married Richard Holford 1665

village had 18 houses

1745

Westonbirt estate lands were enclosed by this year

1776

1 freeholder voted

1798

Westonbirt Manor had 2 farms

1818

16th century house pulled down

1823

George Peter Holford built a new house on site

1829

Robert Holford began planting arboretum

1831

population 138 [Westonbirt with Lasborough]

1836

parish became part of the Tetbury Union

1840

village had 10 cottages, rectory & 1 farmhouse

1849

Banks family provided services of Blacksmithing & occupied site at Hare & Hounds until at least 1939

1858

village moved to its current location – 10 cottages & farmhouse demolished

1863

19th century house pulled down and Robert Stanyor Holford began the building of the current house, using his architect Lewis Vulliamy

1872

Westonbirt House finished

1873

new school house and rooms built

1923

Village Hall opened

Westonbirt estate sold

house transformed into school

Hare & Hounds – extended in 1928 by building 25 bedroom hotel

Westonbirt school opened

Golf course laid out on site of former village

1939

Westonbirt school moved to Bowood & Corsham, and house was requisitioned by Air Ministry. Post war the school returned.

1948

Westonbirt C of E school closed and pupils attended Tetbury C of E school

1956

Arboretum acquired by Forestry Commission and opened to the public

1968

Ashworth House sold for bet 25000 & 30000

1970

Nesley Down for sale 15500 [formerly 2 cottages converted to make medium sized country house]

Silkwood Cottage sold by auction
