Jonas Milnes, son of a saddler, from Cawthorne, YKS ran a chemists shop on Long Street from sometime after May 1874. At this time a partnership between himself and Edward Horne of Barnsley, YKS was dissolved and presumably at this point Jonas moved to Tetbury with his wife Elizabeth.
Jonas died in 1881 and Alexander Low Thompson, a Scottish chemist, took over the business. As he is listed in trade directories of 1879 along with Milnes they may have been in business together. Documents at Gloucestershire Archives [see below] would support this thought.
Thompson died in 1904 and his wife Isabella appears to have carried on the trade as she is listed in the 1911 census as a chemist.
